Sequoia Tea Bowl

A single faceted bowl, its matte white surface broken by dark, crackled slip that spirals up the facets. Eight tea bowls arranged in two rows, each showing a different pattern of dark crackle over white.

These bowls continue the faceting series in high-fired porcelain. Black slip mixed with sodium silicate goes on while the pot is still on the wheel, so the surface splits and crazes as the form is opened and the facets twist upward. A matte white glaze settles over the top of it. The eight bowls read as a set, but no two surfaces break the same way.
